At Somerton Physiotherapy we are committed to providing paediatric physiotherapy services designed to support children of all ages in achieving optimal physical development and well-being. Our paediatric physiotherapy service is tailored to meet the unique needs of children and their families.

Meet Maria

Maria is a skilled and compassionate paediatric physiotherapist with experience in treating children across a wide spectrum of conditions. Her approach is evidence-based and family-centred, ensuring that every child receives personalised care in a supportive and engaging environment.

What Is Paediatric Physiotherapy?

Paediatric physiotherapy focuses on addressing movement, strength, coordination, and functional challenges in children. Through targeted interventions, it helps to improve mobility, independence and overall physical development. Our service is designed to support children with a variety of needs, from developmental concerns to post-injury recovery.

What to Expect During a Session

In your initial appointment, Maria will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your child’s specific needs. This will include:

  • A thorough review of your child’s medical history.
  • Physical and developmental evaluations tailored to their age and condition.
  • Collaborative goal-setting to create a personalised treatment plan for your child.

Subsequent sessions will focus on implementing this plan through techniques such as therapeutic exercises, play-based activities, manual therapy or advice on managing your child’s condition at home. Maria ensures that sessions are both effective and engaging to maximize your child’s participation.

Common Conditions We Treat

We provide treatment for a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Developmental delay and motor skill challenges
  • Torticollis and plagiocephaly
  • Toe Walking
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Musculoskeletal injuries (e.g., sprains, fractures, or joint pain)
  • Coordination and balance difficulties

If you are unsure whether our service is suitable for your child, we encourage you to reach out for a consultation.

Ages We Treat

Our paediatric physiotherapy service caters to children from infancy through adolescence, ensuring support across all stages of growth and development.

What to Bring to a Session

To help us provide the best possible care, we recommend bringing the following to your session:

  • Comfortable clothing for your child to move in.
  • Any relevant medical reports or imaging/scan reports.
  • Any mobility aids or equipment your child uses.
  • Any toys your child likes.

Do I Need a GP Referral?

A GP referral is not required to access our paediatric physiotherapy services. However, if you have a referral or supporting documents, we encourage you to bring them along to your first appointment.

Onward Referrals and Multidisciplinary Care

If additional input from other healthcare professionals is necessary, we will facilitate referrals to trusted specialists such as paediatricians, orthopaedic surgeons, or occupational therapists. Our collaborative approach ensures your child receives the most comprehensive care possible.
